Pediatric Acute Liver Failure
Between October 2021 and May 2022 there was an increase in reported cases of acute severe hepatitis of unknown cause in children Some progressed to pediatric acute liver failure (PALF) and required liver transplantation Human adenovirus (AdV) viremia, specifically type 41, was identified in many of these cases Historically AdV has been a rare cause of acute hepatitis, with case reports in immunocompromised children
